The Veteran of the month for May is Donald G Ediger and you are invited to attend a gathering to honor his memory and support his family on the 14th of May beginning at 1 pm

American Legion Post 33 and the Heritage Museum of Independence will honor a deceased veteran of our local communities and Polk county each month on the second Saturday of each month beginning at 1 PM. We will meet at the new museum across from the Independence post office and then walk a block to raise the flags at the corner of C St. and Main at the site of the Vietnam Veterans memorial. We will fly an American flag and the flag of your loved ones branch of service for one month. At the end of month the American flag will be presented to the family and another American flag and branch of service flag will be hoisted for the next Veteran. There will be refreshments after the raising of the flags and you are invited to return to the museum to visit and share stories if you choose of your loved one.
We encourage anyone with a deceased veteran who you would like to honor to contact us so that we can schedule a month to fly a flag in remembrance of your loved one.
