Dear Legionnaire,

“The Wall that Heals”, the ¾ size replica of the Washington DC Vietnam Memorial, arrived on September 16th with an approximate 200 motorcycles, Corvettes and other vehicles escort. It was set up by Les Schwab Managers from Oregon, California and Washington on the 17th, when visitors started arriving. Opening ceremonies were on the 18th, and an Agent Orange ceremony was on the 19th. The Wall was packed up with the help of Western Oregon’s baseball team, and left on Sunday the 21st.  The Wall actually consisted of a 51’ education trailer, an information tent, and the actual 375’ Wall containing 58,281 names of Vietnam Vets that didn’t make it home.

Early attendance estimation is around 8,000 visitors, may hear of a better count later.

Our next Legion meeting will be Wednesday October 1st, at 7:00pm in the meeting room of the Independence Heritage Museum. This meeting is kept to one hour.

We have no Veteran of the Month scheduled for October

“The Wall that Heals” shirts can still be purchased on line, they come in either long or short sleeve, blue or black.
