Dear Legionnaire, 

 

 

Our next Legion meeting will be Wednesday, February 4th, at 7:00pm in the meeting room of the Independence Heritage Museum. This meeting is kept to one hour. The Museum is located on the corner of 2nd and C Street in Independence, 281 S. 2nd Street, across from the Post Office.  Additional parking is available by the Post Office.

 

We have no Veteran of the Month scheduled for February.

 

On January 21, myself, Steve Russell and Dennis Sebring had the opportunity to visit with the Pedee Women's Club at their location in Pedee. We had the opportunity to thank them for their continuing support for veterans and learn about their history. The Pedee Women's Club prepares and mails 4 packages a month for deployed service men and women. In addition, they provide quilts to local veterans at no charge. Their time is completely voluntary, and their financial support is dependent upon donations. They had asked if we knew of any local deployed veterans and we did not. If you know of someone locally who is deployed, we would appreciate hearing from you so that we could pass that information on to the Pedee Women's Club. On behalf of American Legion Post 33 a donation was made to help in their continuing support of veterans. We are looking forward to continuing support as best we can to this truly caring and patriotic organization. Some of us know how important the connection to home is when receiving packages when deployed. We expressed how much it meant from our first-hand knowledge of being recipients of packages while serving in Vietnam. The club has annual fundraising events and we will keep you posted on time and dates so that you may contribute if you wish.

Friends of the Monmouth Senior Center Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser is held the first Saturday of every month from 8:30 to10:30 at the Monmouth Senior Center, located at 180 Warren St S, Monmouth, Or 97361. The cost is $10.00 for all you can eat. Come join us.
